The history of Sutter Home Winery dates back to the late 1800s, when a Swiss-German immigrant named John Thomann established a small winery and distillery in the heart of California's Napa Valley. 

When the Trinchero family bought Sutter Home Winery in 1948, they had a vision, a passion, and apparently, an insight into consumer tastes. In the early 1970s, Sutter Home started a trend when the company created White Zinfandel, introducing a new, sweeter flavor profile. They changed the way Americans enjoyed wine by offering them high-quality varietals at an affordable price. By the 1980s and 1990s, Sutter Home became a household name and the second largest independent family-run winery in the United States.

Sutter Home has a rich history of providing consumers what they want, including award-winning wines, quality wines at reasonable price points and environmentally friendly packaging solutions.

Sutter Home values philanthropy and is the lead sponsor of the Jamis/Hagens Berman Pro Cycling and sponsors the annual Build a Better Burger competition (now over 25 years), Sutter Home for Hope, among other community initiatives.
